abstract Derivatives of verbascoside and the pharmaceutical compositions containing them are the subject matter of the present invention. In particular, the present invention relates to compounds of Formula (I), wherein R, R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are the same or different and are independently selected from hydrogen and a residue of a carboxylic acid, wherein the ester groups R-O-, R 1 -O, R 2 -O- and R 3 -O-, respectively, are hydrolysable to a pH ranging between 4.5 and 7, provided that R, R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are not simultaneously hydrogen.
