abstract The present invention relates to a process for the hydrogenation of the carbon-nitrogen triple bonds (nitrile groups) in hydrogenated butadiene rubber (HNBR) and for the tandem hydrogenation of carbon-nitrogen triple bonds and carbon-carbon double bonds (olefinic groups) in nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) in solution form by treatment of the polymer with hydrogen in the presence of a ruthenium or rhodium catalyst and a basic reagent.
