titleOfInvention Balloon catheter including a drug delivery sheath
abstract A balloon catheter (10) includes an elongated catheter shaft (12), an expandable balloon (20) connected to the elongated catheter shaft (12), and a sheath (30) that defines a lumen (38) and includes a therapeutic agent disposed within the lumen (38). The balloon catheter (10) further includes a first configuration and a second configuration. When in the first configuration, the expandable balloon (20) is disposed distally from the sheath (30) such that an outer surface (26) of the expandable balloon (20) does not contact the lumen (38). Further, when in the second configuration, at least a portion of the outer surface (26) of the expandable balloon (20) is disposed within the lumen (38) of the sheath (30) such that it contacts the therapeutic agent. At least a portion of the therapeutic agent that contacts the outer surface (26) of the expandable balloon (20) is transferred from the lumen (38) of the sheath (30) to the outer surface (26) of the expandable balloon (20) when the balloon catheter (10) is in the second configuration.
