abstract |
There is provided a curable composition comprising (A) a cyclic olefin; (B) a metathesis catalyst for polymerizing the cyclic olefin; (C) a radical polymerization curable compound; and (D) a curing system for compound (C), wherein the curing system comprises a curing agent selected such that its half life t 1/2CT at the curing temperature and the time t c80 needed to complete at least 80% of the cyclic olefin polymerization reaction at the curing temperature (CT) satisfy 2.5 times t c80 < t 1/2CT < 1000 times t c80 . The composition when used as a polymer matrix material in a composite retains a desirable combination of properties, in particular a good bonding with the reinforcing fibers. Also provided is a molded article comprising the composition and reinforcing fibers, and a method of manufacturing the same. |
