abstract A wound insert (826, 926) for preventing wound closure is provided. The insert comprises a body made of a generally non-porous, flexible material, the body being cylindrical in shape and either solid or including a single passageway (838) along its longitudinal axis. Such insert may be used alone or in regular bandages or in vacuum bandages (18) or in irrigation bandages (18) and may be configured for placement within an undermined portion or a tunneled portion (16) of a wound (12).
