abstract The inventors have adapted Laser Ablation Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) so that it is suitable for single-cell imaging in tissue samples with subcellular resolution. The laser spot size may be 4 μm or less. A time-of-flight mass analyser may be used. The tissue sample may be labelled with four or more rare earth metals.
