The present invention relates to a method of joining joint tapes, comprising applying to a joint tape substrate (1) a composition comprising at least one latent alkyl borane substantially free of decomposer for the latent alkyl borane, applying a free radical curable adhesive to the joint said bond sheet substrate (1) pretreated with said latent alkyl borane, contacting said joint tape substrate (1) with a joint tape substrate (2) such that said free radical curable adhesive is interposed between said two substrates, and allowing said radically curable adhesive to set to form a composite structure. The inventive method is particularly suitable for the bonding of joint tapes based on elastic and thermoplastic substrates, such as EPDM or SBR, but also for bonding PVC joint tapes. Correspondingly bonded joint tapes are characterized by a favorable resistance of the adhesive to alkaline media, whereby conventional adhesives can be used which have optimized properties with respect to their storage stability, their open time and curing time. |
