abstract The present invention refers to a method for the determination of the fat mass of a subject and comprising the operations of: n- Acquisition of at least an image (2) of the subject through a digital device (1); n- Generation of a virtual frame (A, A', B', B) that contains at least in part said image. n In accordance with the invention, such a generation of a virtual frame is foreseen that contains the subject on the basis of its height h or of the greater size in the case of animals in such a way as to obtain the estimate of the content of fat mass through an algorithm on the basis of at least an indicative index of the area (A_1) occupied by the subject with respect to the area (B_1) of the frame in which it is contained at least in part.
