titleOfInvention Patterned substrates for solar cells
abstract A substrate for a solar cell, has an interface surface at the interface between substrate and active layer. While the interface surface is generally planar, its height varies locally according to a repeating pattern, each repetition of the pattern being centred on a respective origin, wherein the distance between adjacent pairs of origins is within the range 100 nm to 20 microns. In each of said repeating patterns the height varies locally according to a superposition of one, two, or more Bessel functions. This surface can be tuned to harvest incident radiation into surface plasmons with a greater efficiency and specificity than comparable substrate surfaces.
