Provided is an oxynitride phosphor powder that comprises an α-sialon fluorescent body having a fluorescent peak wavelength of 605-615 nm, and the external quantum efficiency of the oxynitride phosphor powder is greater than the conventional art. This oxynitride phosphor powder comprises an a-sialon represented by the compositional formula Ca x1 Eu x2 Si 12-(y+z) Al (y+z) O z N 16-z (where x1, x2, y, and z satisfy the expressions 1.10 ≤ x1 + x2 ≤ 1.70, 0.18 ≤ x2 / x1 ≤ 0.47, and 2.6 ≤ y ≤ 3.6, 0.0 ≤ z ≤ 1.0). Furthermore, provided is an oxynitride phosphor powder comprising an α-sialon containing 50-10,000 ppm of lithium. Moreover, in the present invention, with regard to the method for manufacturing these oxynitride phosphor powders, it is preferable for the substance that acts as the silicon source in the raw materials to be a silicon nitride powder having an oxygen content of 0.2%-0.9% by mass, an average particle size of 1.0-12.0 µm, and a specific surface area of 0.2-3.0 m 2 /g. |
