abstract The invention relates to a process for the synthesis of a compound of formula (I) for which R1 is chosen from the group consisting of a hydrogen atom and a linear or branched C1-C6 alkyl group and R2 is chosen from the group consisting of a hydrogen atom, a linear or branched C1-C6 alkyl group, and a linear or branched C1-C6 alkoxy group, said process comprising the following successive steps: (a) acetylation of a compound of formula (II) for which R1 and R2 are defined as above, to yield a compound of formula (III) for which R1 and R2 are defined as above, (b) subjecting the compound of formula (III) obtained in the preceding step (a) to a Fries rearrangement to yield a compound (IV) for which R1 and R2 are defined as above; and (c) cyclization, reduction and aromatization of the compound of formula (IV) obtained in the preceding step (b) to lead to the formation of the compound of formula (I).
