titleOfInvention Image signal processing apparatus, image signal processing method, and image capturing apparatus
abstract The present invention aims at generating image signals such that a balance between high image quality and visibility improvement is achieved adaptively to scenes. This is accomplished by evaluating whether or not correction is required and how much correction is effective from input images and controlling correction strength, when correcting signal levels of image signals. There is disclosed an image signal processing apparatus 1 including an image signal input unit 101; a gradation decrease evaluation unit 103 that evaluates a decrease in gradation within a certain area in image signals; a gradation loss evaluation unit 104 that evaluates a degree of gradation loss within a certain area in image signals; an image signal correction unit 102 that performs signal level correction processing on image signals and outputs the processing result; and an image signal correction control unit 105 that controls strength of correction by the image signal correction unit 102, using both the gradation decrease evaluated value which is output by the gradation decrease evaluation unit 103 and the gradation loss evaluated value which is output by the gradation loss evaluation unit 104. The image signal correction control unit 105 controls correction strength to decrease the correction strength, if the gradation decrease evaluated value is small, and decrease the correction strength, if the gradation loss evaluated value is large.
