abstract | A method for making a dry pulp comprising the steps of (i) forming a dispersion in water of a pulp comprising polymeric fibers having a tenacity of at least 20 g/dtex, (ii) filtering the dispersion to form a mass of wet pulp having a solids content of from 5 to 60%, (iii) freezing the wet pulp until the mass is at least 95% frozen, (iv) subliming the water from the frozen mass by subjecting the frozen mass to vacuum of less than 4.5 Torr until the final moisture content of the pulp is no greater than 5% and (v) warming the pulp to ambient temperature under vacuum. |
