abstract | The present disclosure relates to a process for the preparation of a composition containing carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and a low viscosity carrier in an extrusion system, comprising the steps of: a) adding a low viscosity carrier with a melt viscosity below 30 Pas to the extrusion system; b) adding CNTs with an average agglomerate size in the range from 0.02 mm to 6 mm to the extrusion system; c) conveying the CNTs and the low viscosity carrier and the thermoplastic polymer or reactive resin through the extrusion system for a time of from 10 s to 90 s, whereby the components are compounded; and d) collecting the composition of low viscosity carrier and CNTs from the extrusion system, wherein the low viscosity carrier comprises less than 1 wt.-% of aromatic compounds. The present disclosure further relates to a composition containing CNTs, a low viscosity carrier and optionally a thermoplastic polymer, which was prepared according to any of the aforementioned preparation processes and the use of this composition for the preparation of a polymer-CNT composite material. |
