abstract The present invention relates to microorganisms presenting cellulases on their surface. Corresponding microorganisms have been prepared using appropriate plasmids encoding a segment comprising a signal peptide, a heterologous cellulase, optionally a protease recognition site, a transmembrane linker, and a transporter domain of an auto-transporter, or a variant thereof. Such microorganisms could be used to advantage in the conversion of cellulose to cellobiose and / or glucose. It was also possible to recover the microorganisms from the reaction mixture after the reaction of simple substrates. In addition, a combination of different microorganisms, which were occupied with exocellulases, endocellulases and beta-glucosidases, could be used for the production of glucose from cellulose or wood.
