abstract Sol gel derived materials obtained from at least one first precursor and at least one second precursor, as well as sol gel derived compositions containing a plurality of alkylsiloxy substituents obtained from such sol-gel derived materials. Sol-gel derived materials are prepared from a reaction medium containing a mixture of a least one first alkoxysilane precursor and at least one second alkoxysilane alkoxysilane precursor under acid or base sol-gel conditions, preferably base sol-gel conditions. The alkoxysilane precursor mixture is formed in any suitable solvent, such as tetrahydrofuran (THF).
