titleOfInvention Polyurethane painting system having low Volatile Organic Compounds emission
abstract The main object of the patent is that of illustrating a way for reducing the emissions of VOCs (volatile organic compounds) when using polyurethane painting systems with 2 transparent and/or pigmented components. With this method, more in general, there is a reduction in the viscosity of the painting products. n For this reason a polyurethane painting system is described having two components comprising a hydroxyl component and a component containing isocyanates characterised in that it further comprises at least one linear or weakly branched alcohol containing 6 to 14 carbon atoms of formula I: CH 3 -(CH 2 ) n -OH wherein n = 5 - 13; or of formula II: CH 3 -CHR-(CH 2 ) n -OH wherein R = -CH 3 or - CH 2 -CH 3 and n = 3 - 11 if R = -CH 3 and n = 2 - 10 if R = -CH 2 -CH 3 and in which the hydroxyl groups of said alcohol or of said alcohols are 5 - 30% by weight of the total weight of the hydroxyls present in the system.
