abstract The present invention provides an automotive fuel injection system for a compression ignition engine, comprising a fuel injector configured to receive a fuel having an octane rating between 87 and -30 and configured to meter the fuel into the compression ignition engine, and a heater coupled to the fuel injector and configured to heat the fuel injector such that the fuel is heated to a predetermined minimum temperature, whereby the ignition delay of the fuel is reduced below a predetermined maximum ignition delay.
