A composition that includes polylactide resin and plasticizer, the plasticizer having a chemical formula: wherein R may be the same or different and wherein at least one R is a branched alkyl group having a carbon chain length of C 5 or greater; and R is an H or an acyl group. In another aspect, the invention provides a process for providing an semicrystalline polylactide film, the process including the steps of providing a polylactide composition that includes polylactide resin, nucleating agent, and the foregoing plasticizer. The composition is extruded as a molten sheet which is then cooled to crystallize the polylactide and provide the film. |
