abstract The invention relates to a clamping device (10) for connecting electrical conductors extending in a longitudinal direction (28). The clamping device has a carrier element (34) made of an electrically insulating material which has at least two longitudinally open receptacles (28) lying next to one another in a transverse direction (30). In each case at least one terminal block (18) with a movable against at least one conductor clamping member (14) can be inserted into the receptacles. The receptacle and the terminal blocks are provided with mutually engageable equipped fasteners. In order to be able to produce the support element with less material expenditure and simpler materials, it is provided according to the invention that the fastening elements (50, 52) are designed to receive a transverse force (20) which transverses over the receptacle in the transverse direction and into the at least one clamping element arranged in the receptacle initiate. Thus, a force flow (54) of the transverse force is guided past the carrier element.
