abstract The invention relates to a surgical repair article, comprising a structural member of high performance polyethylene (HPPE) filament(s). The surgical repair article comprises a structural member of high performance polyethylene (HPPE) filament(s), and a biodegradable coating applied to the surface of the structural member, wherein the coating comprises a sol/gel produced inorganic oxide and a biologically active compound incorporated therein. The article combines high tensile strength, biocompatibility and favourable bioactive compound delivery characteristics.
