Sharp fibrous needle probe for the in-depth optical diagnosis of tumors by endogenous fluorescence |
abstract |
The invention describes a sharp fibrous needle optical probe (1) consisting of an optical fiber (2) included inside a hollow needle (3) ending in a cutting tip (4). The optical fiber (2) is inserted into and adhered to the inside the cavity of the needle and then polished so as to fit into the sharp shape of the latter. The needle is inserted into the material (5) to be examined. A light-recovering injection device (6) is placed at the inlet of the fiber. The material (5) that is located on the sharp end of the needle (4) backscatters the incident light and generates an endogenous fluorescence signal. A portion of this light stream is recovered by the needle tip and sent back to the light-recovering injection device (6). The latter analyzes the intensity, duration, and wavelength of the light and makes it possible to perform an in-depth diagnosis of the examined material without sampling same. An optical telemeter (7) placed on the outer tip of the needle makes it possible to know the depth of the examined area. The device makes it possible to carry out an in-depth optical diagnosis of tumors in the field of oncology. |
