The present invention relates to a new strain of Clostridium acetobutylicum modified to be able to grow on cellulose wherein the wild type cel48A gene encoding an inactive Ce148A cellulase is replaced with a hybrid gene coding for an active family 48 glycoside hydrolase catalytic domain and a dockering domain that can bind the cohesive domain of the CipA protein and its use for the production of bulk chemicals by conversion of cellulose as source of carbon, such as ethanol, butanol, glycerol, 1,2-propanediol, 1,3-propanediol, acetone, isopropanol, hydrogen, acetic acid and lactic acid and the like. |
