abstract Provided is a frequency component analyzing device wherein a frequency component in a detection value of an operation parameter of an internal combustion engine is analyzed in synchronization with the rotation of the engine. An operation parameter is sampled at a predetermined time interval, and the sampled value is converted to a digital value. The intensities of a first element and a second element that is out of phase with the first element by 90 degrees are calculated for a predetermined number of sampled values. The intensities correspond to a plurality of frequency components contained in a detected value of the operation parameter. The intensities of the frequency components of a plurality of frequencies are calculated in synchronization with the rotation of an engine, using the intensities of the first element and the second element. Offset components contained in the intensities of the first element and the second element are calculated, and the offset components are removed from the intensities of the first element and the second element, to calculate the intensities of the frequency components.
