abstract | The invention relates to thermally expandable thermoplastic microspheres comprising a polymer shell made from ethylenically unsaturated monomers encapsulating a propellant, said ethylenically unsaturated monomers comprising at least one first cross- linking monomer having two or more carbon-to carbon double bonds and at least one second cross-linking monomer having two or more carbon-to-carbon double bonds, said at least one first cross-linking monomer having a reactivity Q greater than 0.2 and said at least one second cross-linking monomer having a reactivity Q less than 0.2, the reactivity Q being defined in accordance with the Alfrey-Price Q-e scheme, the amount of said at least one second cross-linking monomer being less than 0.8 mol% of the total amount of ethylenically unsaturated monomers. The invention further relates to production and use of such microspheres. |
