A medical implant (1) for application in an articulating surface of a joint, comprising a plate- shaped structure having a first surface (5) and a second surface (7) facing mutually opposite directions, the first surface (5) comprising a first biocompatible metal, metal alloy or ceramic and being devised to form a wear resistant articulate surface configured to face the articulating part of the joint; and the second surface (7) comprising a bioactive ceramic or bioactive glass incorporated into a second metal, metal alloy or ceramic and being devised to form a bone contacting surface configured to face bone structure in the joint; wherein: the first surface (5) and the second surface (7) are adhered by means of a sintered material structure. Possibly the second surface is a sintered mixture having a homogenous microstructure comprising the bioactive ceramic or bioactive glass and the second metal, metal alloy or ceramic. |
