A stereoscopic 3D camera (10) having a first image sensor (16a) and a second image sensor (16b) for recording a first two-dimensional image and a second two-dimensional image of a monitoring region (12) from different perspectives, wherein a stereoscopic evaluation unit (16) 28) is provided, which is adapted to charge the two images to a three-dimensional depth map of distance pixels and to generate quality information on the determined distance pixels.
