abstract |
An organic copolymer having a plurality of regions along the length of the copolymer backbone comprising a region for accepting and combining positive and negative charge carriers to generate light and having a bandgap defined by a LUMO (Lowest Unoccupied Molecular Orbital) level and a HOMO (Highest Occupied Molecular Orbital) level and at least one of region (i) and region (ii), wherein nregion (i) is a region for transporting negative charge carriers and having a bandgap defined by a LUMO level and a HOMO level; nregion (ii) is a region for transporting positive charge carriers and having a bandgap defined by a LUMO level and a HOMO level; n nwherein the region for accepting and combining positive and negative charge carriers comprises a structural unit derived from a monomer comprising a group M which is an aromatic or heteroaromatic diazine group fused to a benzene or thiophene group, wherein each said first and second region comprises a structural unit derived from one or more monomers and the quantity and arrangement of the monomers in the organic copolymer is selected so that the three bandgaps are distinct from one another in the copolymer. |
