titleOfInvention Method for reducing malodorous substances in tank containers
abstract The invention relates to a method for reducing malodorous substances in tank containers for heavy oil or bitumen, wherein active agents are sprayed into the gas volume above the liquid level together with solvents, said mixture reacting with or masking the malodorous substances and thus reducing the amount of odour. The active agents comprise at least 30 wt. % of at least one aldehyde with more than 10 carbon atoms in the molecule and a boiling point of at least 150 °C and are applied in a mixture with 20 to 95 wt. % of a solvent. The solvent is a mineral oil and, in addition to the aldehydes, the active agents can comprise naturally occurring alcohols, terpenes, ketones and carboxylate esters each with a boiling point of at least 150 °C.
