abstract |
Disclosed is a precipitated silicic acid having a d50 value of 150 to 2000 nm, a d90 value of 500 to 7000 nm, a silanol group density of 2.5 to 8 OH/nm², and a maximum modified compacted bulk density of 70 g/l. Said precipitated silicic acid is suitable for thickening and imparting thixotropy to liquid systems and exhibits superior thickening and thixotropic efficiency compared with previous qualities of precipitated silicic acid. The precipitated silicic acid works best as a thixotropic agent in nonpolar or moderately polar liquid systems such as unsaturated polyester (UPE) resin systems. |
