A polymer composition is typically obtainable by reacting: a) 40-90 pphwm of vinyl acetate; b) 30-5 pphwm of cycloalkyl esters of a butenedioic acid; and optionally c) 30-5 pphwm of vinyl esters of α-monosubstituted fatty acids; and/or d) 20-5 pphwm of an α-olefin monomer; and/or e) 20-0.1 pphwm of a functional monomer unit such as as self-crosslinking monomer. The polymer is composed and synthesized so as to be useful for one or more of: emulsions, in general; paints, including high pigment volume paints and other decorative coatings; adhesives for porous substrates such as wood or non-porous substrates such as metals, plastics or glass; binders for fibrous substrates such as woven or nonwoven products including textiles, apparel in general, papers, scrim, engineered fabrics, glass or other mineral fibers, roofing or flooring materials; construction compositions including cementitious compositions, caulks and sealants; functional coatings for waterproofing and so forth; powders such as redispersible powders for waterproofing, adhesives and the like. |
