titleOfInvention | Method for measuring neurotransmitters in vivo |
abstract | The invention relates to a method for the in vivo detection of a biochemical substance in an animal by culturing neurofluocytes which stably express a receptor for biochemical substances by transfection of cells with cDNA of the receptor and a marker that will emit a detectable energy in the presence of the biochemical substance, implantation of the neurofluocyte in the brain of the animal; and detecting the energy emission of the marker. In a first embodiment, the biochemical substance is a neurotransmitter, the label is a phosphor, and the detection step includes forming an opening in the skull of the animal and the optical detection of fluorescent using a two-photon laser scanning microscope. Multiple biochemicals can be simultaneously detected by culturing neurofluocytes that express different receptors and having different phosphor labels that produce fluorescent signals at distinguishable wavelengths. |
