abstract The device comprises: atrial and ventricular event detection means; means for calculating atrio-ventricular delay (AVD) and initiating this AVD upon detection of a spontaneous or stimulated atrial event; and ventricular pacing means capable of delivering at the expiration of the VAD a low energy pulse in the absence of a detected spontaneous ventricular event. To calculate the AVD, the device comprises: an acceleration sensor, capable of delivering an endocardial acceleration signal (EA) representative of the movements produced by the cyclic contractions of the atrial cavity; and means capable of recognizing and isolating in the signal EA delivered by the sensor a component corresponding to the fourth peak of endocardial acceleration (PEA4) associated with the atrial activity, and calculating the VAD according to a parameter of this component .
