abstract | The invention relates to a method for producing 1,2-ethylene glycol and 1,2-propylene glycol by means of the heterogenously catalysed hydrogenolysis of a polyol, wherein a catalyst containing palladium (Pd) and a carrier material selected from the group containing carbon, zirconium dioxide, titanium dioxide and calcium carbonate is used as the heterogeneous catalyst. The catalyst does not contain any ruthenium (Ru) and the hydrogenolysis is carried out in the presence of water. |
