abstract | An integrated neutron-gamma radiation detector (10) includes a gamma sensing element (18), a neutron sensing element (20) comprising a neutron scintillating material (20b) at least partially surrounded by an optical waveguide material (20a), and a photosensing element (24) optically coupled to both the gamma sensing element (18) and the neutron sensing element (20). A portion of the gamma sensing element (18) is capable of being disposed within a central aperture (20c) of the neutron sensing element (20). In one aspect, the neutron sensing element (20) comprises a plurality of cylindrical, concentric shells (20a, 20b) forming the central aperture (20c) for receiving the gamma sensing element (18). In another aspect, the neutron sensing element (20) comprises a plurality of strands (20a, 20b) forming a multi-layered structure and forming the central aperture (20c) for receiving the gamma sensing element (18). |
