abstract A process is described for preparing polyfunctional amines of formula (I) and (II) by hydrogenating the corresponding nitriles of formula (III) or (IV) with hydrogen, characterized in that a melt, solution or suspension of the nitrile of the formula (I) or (II) is added over the course of the reaction time to a suspension or solution of a catalyst in a solvent which comprises ammonia and optionally other additives, and is stirred at a temperature in the range from 60 to 150°C under hydrogen pressure.
