abstract A method which improves the quality of effluent from the process of the industrial production of petroleum, usually referred to as produced water. This method makes it possible to reduce the concentration of pollutants in produced water requiring treatment by removing these pollutants through the use of cultures of microalgae that have passed through a process of natural selection and are naturally adapted to the hostile environment offered by produced water.
