A catalyst and process for the manufacture of at least one of methyl acetate and acetic acid by the carbonylation of a carbonylatable reactant selected from methanol, dimethyl ether and dimethyl carbonate with carbon monoxide, in which the catalyst consists essentially of a Group IB metal loaded mordenite prepared by ion-exchange with at least one Group IB metal, the mordenite having a molar ratio of the Group IB metal to total aluminium present in the mordenite in the range 5 to 50mol%. |
