abstract | The present invention provides a lubricating composition comprising: n- a base oil; and n- one or more imidazolid(inethi)one compounds having formula (I):n n nwherein X is O or S; nR 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 are independently hydrogen, alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, aralkyl or NYR 7 ; R 7 is alkyl, alkenyl, aralkyl or R 7 groups combine with N atoms to which they are attached and C atoms of an imidazolidinethione ring to form a five- to seven-membered heterocyclic ring; Y is hydrogen, alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, aralkyl, -CHR 8 -CHR 9 -COOR 10 , -CR 11 R 12 NHR 13 or -C(Z)NHR 14 or oxyl ; R 8 and R 9 are independently hydrogen or C 1 -C 4 alkyl; R 10 , R 11 and R 12 are independently hydrogen, alkyl, alkenyl, aryl or aralkyl; R 13 and R 14 are independently alkyl, alkenyl, aralkyl or aryl; Z is O or S; provided that when X is S, one of R 1 and R 2 and one of R 3 and R 4 are not at the same time NYR 7 ; nor R 1 and R 3 combine with carbon atoms of an imidazolidinethione ring to form a C 5 -C 8 cycloalkyl or cycloalkenyl ring; nor R 2 and R 5 combine with carbon atoms of an imidazolidinethione ring to form a C 5 -C 8 cycloalkyl or cycloalkenyl ring; nor R 1 and R 2 combine to form a double bond with an O or S atom; nR 5 and R 6 are independently hydrogen, alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, aralkyl, -CHR 8 -CHR 9 -COOR 10 , -CR 11 R 12 NHR 13 or -C(Z)NHR 14 . |
