abstract The invention relates to a method for preparing xylooligosaccharides, the method comprising the following steps: cold alkaline extraction (CCE) of cellulose produced by a digestion process, purification of at least part of the pressing liquor produced during the cold alkaline extraction stage by means of a membrane separation process, preferably by nanofiltration or ultrafiltration, extraction of xylans from at least part of the retentate from the membrane separation process, further processing of at least part of the extracted xylans to produce xylooligosaccharides.
