abstract |
There is provided a honeycomb structure having excellent thermal dispersibility upon heating and being effectively inhibited from being damaged due to thermal stress. The honeycomb structure includes: porous partition walls 3 disposed so as to form a plurality of cells 4 (4a and 4b) functioning as fluid passages of exhaust gas between two end faces and having a large number of pores, and plugging portions 7 disposed so as to alternately plug one of the open end portions 5 of each of the cells 4a and 4b on the two end faces. Additional plugging portions 8 are further disposed in open end portions (unplugged open end portions) having no plugging portion 7 disposed therein of the cells 4 in such a manner that the additional plugging portions 8 stop inflow of a part of the exhaust gas to the unplugged open end portions, and disposition length (L1) in an axial direction of the additional plugging portions 8 is different from disposition length (L2) in the axial direction of the plugging portions 7. |
