titleOfInvention Sandwich sensor for the determination of an analyte concentration
abstract Disclosed is an implantable sensor (110) that can be used for determining a concentration of at least one analyte in a medium, especially a body tissue and/or a body fluid. Said implantable sensor (110) has a layered structure encompassing at least one insulating supporting substrate (112; 210, 216; 710, 712, 714; 810, 812) and at least two electrodes (134, 136; 238, 240, 242; 738, 740, 742; 830, 832, 836) which are disposed in at least two different layer levels of the implantable sensor (110) and are electrically separated from each other by means of the at least one insulating supporting substrate (112; 210, 216; 710, 712, 714; 810, 812). The electrodes (134, 136; 238, 240, 242; 738, 740, 742; 830, 832, 836) are provided with electrode surfaces which face the medium when the sensor (110) is implanted and are in contact with the medium across large areas and in a substantially uniform manner either directly or via an analyte-permeable membrane layer (146).
