titleOfInvention Sintering of quartz glass into pieces containing crystalline SiO2
abstract For a simple and rapid production of a shaped body made of quartz glass and a shaped body which hardly leads to contamination of a melt in contact with the shaped body even at high temperatures, the invention provides a method with the following steps: a) provision of quartz glass in the form of substantially amorphous SiO 2 grains, of which a maximum of 5% have a diameter greater than 15 mm, b) adding water to the quartz glass grains to produce a slip mass, c) pouring the slip mass into a mold comprising a hollow body with the inverse shape of the shaped body to be produced, d) drying the slip mass to a pre-body, e) sintering the pre-body at a sintering temperature at which at least a portion of the quartz glass is converted from the amorphous to a crystalline modification, f) cooling the sintered shaped body to a temperature below 300 ° C. in such a way that a structure is produced which contains crystalline SiO 2 , available as well as a shaped body which comprises at least 99.0 mol .-% of SiO 2 .
