abstract The invention provides a toner and a process for the manufacture of the toner which comprises the steps of : a) providing a latex dispersion containing primary resin particles and surfactant; b) providing a colorant dispersion containing primary colorant particles and surfactant; c) providing at least one carboxy functional compound of Formula (1) , which may be in acid, salt and/or complex form: R - Z - COOH Formula (1) wherein R is a carbocyclic or heterocyclic radical which may be optionally substituted and Z is a bond or linker group and wherein the amount of carboxy functional compound of Formula (1) provided is greater than 3% weight ; d) mixing the latex dispersion, colorant dispersion, optional way dispersion and said carboxy functional compound; and e) causing the particles in the mixture to associate. The process advantageously may produce a toner of small size and narrow particle size distribution.
