abstract | Disclosed is an in vitro method for detecting, determining the degree of seriousness of, assessing the progression of, and making predictions about neurodegenerative diseases. According to said method, the presence and/or the concentration of carbamoyl-phosphate synthetase 1 (CPS1) is determined in a biological fluid of a patient who suffers or is suspected of suffering from a neurodegenerative disease, and conclusions about the presence, progression, degree of seriousness, or success of a treatment of the neurodegenerative disease are drawn based on the determined presence and/or concentration of CPS1 or the non-detectability of a CPS1 immune reactivity. |
