titleOfInvention | Beta-type sialon fluorescent substance |
abstract | This invention provides a β-type sialon fluorescent substance that can realize enhanced brightness of a white luminescent diode using blue to ultraviolet light as a light source. The β-type sialon fluorescent substance comprises β-type sialon represented by general formula: Si6-zAlzOzN8-z as a matrix material. In the β-type sialon fluorescent substance, Eu is present in a solid solution form as a luminescence center. Z in the composition represented by the general formula is not less than 0.24 and not more than 0.42, the content of Eu is 0.05 at% to 0.25 at%, and the content of the β-type sialon, which dissolves Eu in a solid solution, is not less than 90% by mass. The β-type sialon fluorescent substance is preferably a powder having an average particle diameter of not less than 1 μm and not more than 20 μm. A white LED having good luminescent characteristics can be realized by using a blue or ultraviolet light emitting diode as an excitation light source which is used in combination with a fluorescent substance that emits yellow or red light. |
