abstract | A polyalkylene terephthalate polymerization catalyst that does not use heavy metals, such as antimony, so as to be friendly to environment; and a process for producing a polyalkylene terephthalate with the use of the catalyst. There is provided a titanium oxide sol for polyalkylene terephthalate polymerization catalyst, containing an organic solvent as a dispersion medium, characterized in that the titanium oxide concentration of the sol is regulated at 0.7 g/L, and that the light transmission thereof in the wavelength region of 400 to 800 nm as measured at a light path length of 1 cm is 50% or higher, and that the amount of hydroxyl per gram of titanium oxide is 1.8 mmol or more. |
