abstract A banknote sorting device (1) having two output pockets (5a,5c) is disclosed. Each pocket can be designated as a primary or a secondary output pocket. The banknote sorting device is switchable between a sitting mode in which the lower (5c) of the two output pockets is designated the primary output pocket and the upper (5a) of the two output pockets is designated the secondary output pocket, and a standing mode in which the designation of the primary and secondary output pockets is reversed.
