abstract The present invention relates to a new process for preparing perindopril erbumine (I), useful in the treatment of hypertension. The invention relates to obtaining 1-[(2S)-2-[[(1S)-1(ethoxycarbonyl)butyl]amino]-1-propionyl] (2S,3aS,7aS)-octahydro-1H-indole-2-carboxylic acid, tert-butylamine salt that comprises reacting an active ester of N-[2(S)-(ethoxycarbonyl)butyl]-L-alanine with an organic salt of perhydroindole-2-carboxylic acid, followed by the addition of t-butylamine and an acid to the reaction medium, in any order, or else a salt formed from an acid and tert-butylamine, and separating the product by conventional means.
