titleOfInvention | Copd treatment and medicament |
abstract | Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in a patient can be treated by administering to said patient an effective dose of an extract of Petasites sp. Preferred dosages are in the range of from about 1 to about 50 mg/kg per day or above and have been shown to be effective in treating COPD in horses. Thus, medicaments for treating COPD can be provided by using an extract ofPetasites sp. for preparation of such medicaments. The novel treatment of COPD is of particular advantage in the case of horses but it is expected that human patients can be treated successfully as well. Such treatment is of particular importance if use of corticosteroids for treating broncho-constrictive or broncho-obstructive diseases is impossible or undesirable. |
